Garden Club
by Barbara Castle
March brings the first day of Spring, YAHOO! Aren’t we all ready for it after this snowy surprise from Mother Nature in early February? Mid-February, as I write this, I am watching heavy rain and hearing strong winds. The snow has mostly melted from our hills.
Our March Garden Club meeting will be back on the usual third Monday of the month. This will continue through the end of the year. During Summer months we will go on local field trips, visit nurseries and other garden related activities. Please share hints and ideas for destinations that you would enjoy. Watch for new information in our Senior Center Newsletter.
The March meeting will be a Garden Chat, with hints, garden stories and any garden magazines you want to share. Our annual Garden Sale in May will be discussed at this meeting. It is never too early to begin planning.
Sadly, our ‘tomato lady,’ Eleanor, is moving to Spokane. We will happily accept another source of ‘green thumbs’ to take over this fun job.
Your presence is highly encouraged at ALL of our meetings. Next Meeting: March 18, 1 p.m. Let’s give SPRING a rousing welcome! QUESTIONS? Call the Center’s main desk (503-588-0748), Sandy (503-851-8250), or me (Barbara) at 503-375-7723.
Monday Afternoon Crafters
by Arlene Williams
With snow, rain, and holidays, the Morning Craft Group continues to produce many items needed by others. Just for fun, I decided to keep track of the number of items turned in.
For three weeks in February, we knitted, crocheted, or sewed: 17 fleece shawls, 6 lap robes, 7 matching hats and scarves, 15 hats, 5 scarves, 12 shawls, 1 baby layette of a blanket, hat and booties, 2 baby blankets, 2 baby hats, 3 pairs of mittens, 5 afghans, and 1 pair of slippers.
Since the Under the Bridge Ministry has ended, we have given most of out items to Serenity Hospice, which is just across the parking lot from the Center. They are very appreciative of our donations. Jennifer, one of the volunteers, was so impressed with our group that she made a wonderful sign for us. Kate Jones, the coordinator for Portland, Salem and Eugene brought us goodies to express her thanks for our donations. If anyone would like to join us, we meet every Monday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Kate Jones, the Hospice coordinator, presented the sign they made for our group.
